Muddy Murphy's has for many years been the largest volume Irish Pub in Singapore and Asia. The success of "Muddy's" (as the customers like to call it) comes from achieving a delicate balance between tuning into the needs of both local and foreign clientele, whilst at the same time retaining the essential Irish atmosphere and authenticity, so vital to the overall concept.

Occupying a two-storey, 520m² site in the Orchard Hotel Shopping Arcade, off Orchard Road, Muddy Murphy's utilises a three-concepts-in-one design theme. Upstairs has been recreated to resemble a turn-of-the-century Dublin City grocery store, whilst downstairs comprises an open-air "farmyard" and a more heavily-themed Traditional Irish Country Cottage Pub. This is where much of the crowd congregate for a spot of revelling in a much livelier atmosphere.

Amazingly, Muddy Murphy's was designed and built to scale in Dublin, Ireland. It was then disassembled and shipped to Singapore in six 40-foot containers and installed at its current location by 15 specialist Irish Pub fitters. There can be no expense spared when it comes to the authentic re-creation of the magic of the Emerald Isle drinking experience!

However, Muddy Murphy's really sets the standards with the quality of the beer it serves. Fine Irish Ales such as Kilkenny (a creamy red ale) and draught Guinness (Ireland's most famous of beers) are without a doubt the order of the day. These draught beers utilise a 'smooth-flow', twin-gas [nitrogen & CO2] system ensuring a rich, creamy texture and wonderful presentation. In addition there are 5 other draughts on tap to whet your whistles.

Those wishing to indulge in hearty, traditional Irish dishes will not be disappointed with Muddy's wonderfully popular Irish stew or 'melt-in-the-mouth' Irish Whiskey steak. Muddy's is also perhaps best renowned for it's exceptionally tasty and economically friendly three-course Traditional Sunday roast-lunch ($20 nett).

The Irish take two things very seriously: their appetite for great food and drink and their appetite for the 'craic' - Muddy Murphy's Irish Pub caters for it all - very well!! See you there...

The Muddy Murphy Story
In 1961, three centuries after Boxty Murphy's somewhat fortunate brewing exploits the Murphy clan celebrated the birth of a new hero - Muddy Murphy. This young Murphy has perhaps touched the hearts of more Irish folk than any other Murphy. He is a fiddler of legendary skill who has set many Irish toes a-tapping and eyes a-smiling with his rhythmic reels and jigs. As a young Dubliner he was fascinated by Ireland's rich musical heritage, and at the age of sixteen was already touring the length and breadth of Ireland with a lively local pub band playing the Irish fiddle. On January 12th 1979, on his eighteenth birthday,Muddy was awarded his first recording contract in the US city of Boston, and it was during the making of this album (The Boston Tea Party) that he was given his nickname.
Every night in Boston after hours of recording, the talented Irishman would relax with a pint of stout and a baked potato whilst playing the blues on an Irish banjo in memory of his two famous Murphy ancestors, 'Boxty the Cluricaune' and 'Paddy the Potato-man'. The numerous Irish-Americans in Boston adored this musical treat and very soon they nicknamed the fast fiddling musician 'Muddy' Murphy after the great American 'Bluesman', Muddy Waters.

The beginning of a new legend ... Muddy Murphy is now set to become one of Ireland's all-time great musicians as he enters his musical prime and travels the world to share his unique style of traditional Irish music with a growing band of followers. Yet despite all the media attention, Muddy Murphy never forgets his past, and even today he lives in the same 1838 cottage handed down by Paddy Murphy and regularly enjoys a pint of Irish stout together with a baked potato in the company of his faithful canine companion, Spuddy.

A toast to Muddy Murphy and all the Murphys before him! Slainte! ("cheers"). Read about the early history of the Murphy's click here
